Masters still at the helm

A century ago and down the memory lane
With the rise and fall of civilizations
With the conquest of empires
Others from mere bellowing trumpets
The pace of change engulfed the world
The semblance of globalization took root

The Germanys with ferocious firepower
And the British with their cunning smiles
Vasco Dagama in imposing amour attire
History shaped by adventures of the high seas
Maps drawn on the black continent
Distance and tsetse fly the felony
Inhibiting the exploits and excitement

Mkwawa rose in arms, Shaka picking the melody
Majimaji uprising up in black magic
The fight finished by Mwalimu
Though his hands remained closely tied
With the world of tariff and imbalances
The masters still at the helm
But now the terrain so difficult
The globe such a small village
History that repeats shamefully upon us
The tricks ever the same but more refined

The globe woven in such an intricate cobweb
The buttons pressed with precision
Either bulging to gimmick or perish in explosion
Competing with the giants and powerful
Darwinian theory now taking hold
The arena so insecure and uneven

Globalization an unpleasant reality
Learning the magic the only orifice
The only escape though crowded with hitches
With control held with such a grip
Breaking free not a fancy affair
May God Bless the lowly not only in magic!
As the patterns evolve evoking the memories
The History that remains ever painful.
