JR Institute of Information Technology holds first graduation ceremony

By a Correspondent

It was joy and cheers as JR Institute Of Information Technology- Arusha (JRIIT) celebrated its first ever graduation ceremony since the institute was officially approved by the National Council For Technical Education (NACTE) in 2007 to offer engineering courses.

The event took place on 13/5/2011 in the institute premises. Graduates drawn from departments of computer science, computer engineering and electronics & telecommunication were joined by their parents, relatives, staff, friends and other invited guests to mark the end of the academic journey that lasted three years.

The guest of honour, the Arusha Regional Commissioner, Mr. Isidor Shirima, urged the graduates not to waste too much time looking for rather few job opportunities in the formal sector, instead they should use the ICT knowledge and other technical skills they have acquired at JRIIT to initiate self employment. He was very emphatic to advise the graduates to organize themselves in groups and apply for bank loans or grants that the government has made available in order to promote youth self employment in the country.

Earlier the Principal, Mr. Pascoal J. Nabuba, told the audience and
parents present at the ceremony to ignore comments by some
people who wrongly perceive technical education as of less
importance for the country. He gave examples of countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries of the so called third world especially those found in Asia which have made tremendous economic development in the various branches of technology by promoting technical education from the lower levels.

The ceremony reached its climax when the guest of honour flanked by the Principal and the representative of the body of trustees Mr. Riyaz Somji who is also the Chairman of Tanfoam having sponsored 23 students for a period of three years, distributed certificates of completion to the graduates and special award  to three best students one from each department.
