Bikes now fast tracking robbery in streets By Staff Reporter Fast-track crime has come to Arusha. The new crime could have started here too, whichever the case, the new high-speed robbery is becoming a major threat to residents. It is a new technique of crime where culprits ride on speeding machines. ‘Fast-track’ as it is known in town, could seriously damage either your wealth or health depending on whether the criminal hits you prior to stealing. Targets are mostly motorists but unsuspecting lady pedestrians have more than often fallen victims to these new generation of criminals riding on either motorbikes or bicycles, usually in pairs and their modus operandi is simple: hit, grab and speed away ... fast. A non suspecting motorist, with car windows rolled down may just be taken by surprise as two people on motorbike ride abreast the vehicle, grab whatever is on the dashboard, the passenger seat or even in the driver’s hands, and before the victims realizes what is unfolding the pair would speed off into oblivion. It is proving to be the safest stealing method since no motorist would dare leave his or her car in the middle of the road to chase the offenders and since the roads are usually full of other vehicles it is even impossible to speed after a motorbike or bicycle that can find their way out of the road and into side tracks. Arusha residents are also yet to come to terms with thieves who are well-dressed and riding on motorbikes. The police in the region were still in the dark regarding the issue when we called to find out how they were handling the issue, but promised to investigate.
