FICA ensures steady seed supply to farmers

By Happy Lazaro

The government has commended Arusha- based FICA Seed Company for preparing and distributing various crop seeds to improve the agricultural sector.

The commendation was last week given by the Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. James Wanyancha at the Nane Nane fairgrounds.

The deputy minister said the Ugandan’s owned FICA Company would be the saviour of farmers and peasants as it would ensure steady supply of reliable seeds for all soil and weather conditions.

He said the government had budgeted for purchase of seed supply for the whole year as the supply is now assured with introduction of the company in the country.

Earlier, the company’s Manager Goodluck Swai, said  the seeds production capacity is 40 tons per day.

Minja said the company aimed at easing seed supply constraints in Tanzania.

Seeds such as beans, maize, sorghum, and sunflower would be steadily supplied to Tanga, Morogoro, Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions through  appointed distribution agents.
