hockey tourney kicks off in new format

Five teams will feature in the national hockey league
scheduled to start on 25 April and continue to December 13, according to
the competition’s co-ordinator, Monu Singh.
“This if the first time that the league has been organized on home and
away basis,” he said, adding that the tournament was part of new efforts
to revive the sport.
The five teams which have confirmed are: Arusha Twiga, Moshi Khalsa,
Burhani Tanga, Dar es Salaam Khalsa and the Tanzania Peoples Defence
Forces (TPDF).
According a draw released yesterday by the organizers, Tanzania Hockey
Union (THU)TPDF, will face Tanga Burhani.
On Sunday, Dar Khalsa will encounter Burhani Tanga at 8am and Moshi
Khalsa will encounter Arusha Twiga in Moshi at 4.30pm in one three
trend-setters.
The league will continue on May 9 when Arusha Twiga will play TPDF in
the morning in Dar es Salaam.
The Arusha boys will meet arch-rivals Dar Khalsa at 4.30pm and Tanga
Burhani will host Moshi Khalsa at 8am on 10 May.
