Tanga association donates blood analyzer to Mount Meru hospital

By Wankyo Gatti

The Union of people who hail from Tanga region and living in Arusha have donated a special device to measure the amount of haemoglobin to patients at the Children Ward of Mount Meru Hospital.

The HomoCue Haemoglobin photometer valued at Tsh. 800,000 was recently handled over  to the hospital head of laboratory, Cosmas Bagenzi by the Chairman of Tanga-People’s association, Vincent Mchaina. The equipment is capable of analysing the haemoglobin contents of over 1000 patients per day and providing instant results within less than a minute.

According to Dr. Bagenzi, the hospital had  been using older analyzers which used to take up to 30 minutes before coming up with a single result.

“We chose Mt. Meru hospital because of its accessibility to the poor and the fact that it caters to more people than any other hospital in the region,” said Mchaina.

Mchaina said that the hospital management had expressed concern over the problem of having to test both adults and children blood using same facilities and sometimes getting the results delayed due to long queues of specimens at the laboratory.

Dr. Bagenzi added that from now henceforth, the kid’s blood samples will be analyzed right from the children’s ward for faster and less tedious service courtesy of the new device.
