Municipal lady
would rather assist orphan caretakers
By Wankyo Gatti
Many people like to assist orphans with variety of donations but an
Arushan lady recently decided to try another approach, she sent packages
to the people who take care of homeless children instead.
“People forget that in the end it is those who take care of orphans that
do all the self-less hard work and need to be recognized by their
efforts,” said Ms Alise Mazara who works at the Arusha Municipal
Council. She recently visited the people who take care of homeless
children at the Samartan Village in Moshono and the Malaika Orphanage of
Njiro.
Ms Mazara is a member of the Olorien’s parish of Tanzania Assemblies of
God church in Arusha and she recently started the year by donating 30
pairs of ‘Vitenge’ attires to the ladies who look over the 27 orphans at
the Samaritan village and 14 others at Malaika orphanage.
Kitenge is an African garment usually coloful or with patterns. Kitenge
(plural vitenge) similar to sarong and often worn by women but can be
tailored into men’s shirts as well.
Ms Mazara also bought a truck load of building gravel for Samaritan
village to help with the extension of the orphanage. But she did not
forget the children, some crates of soft drinks were enough to make
their days as well. This time last year, the lady gave some donations to
the Hope orphanage of Sakina; apparently this is how she spends her
holidays.
But for how long will this be going on?, Well, when interviewed later
on, Ms Mazara expressed her intention to establish another Orphanage in
Moshono area saying as days go by, there seem to be more and more little
children being either neglected or dumped by irresponsible parents and
all of them need a place to call a home.
