Robbers grab gun from guard after
heavy head blow

When people were celebrating with  glee  the New Year on January  1  two persons believed to be seasoned  robbers  attacked  an armed guard  at  a lodge at  Mbauda and made  away with  his  shot gun.

The thugs, according to Arusha’s  Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei  arrived at the  establishment   famous by the name of Country Coffee Lodge  at 9.30 pm   aboard  a saloon  car without any registration numbers ,  clubbed the  guard  with a Maasai  rungu and grabbed his  gun.

The heavy blow sent the guard, Majangu Raphael of Pentagon Security firm unconscious. The shotgun with registration numbers MG 79549 was loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

The wounded guard, a resident of Unga Limited,  was admitted at the Mount Meru hospital  and police are still hunting  for the  robbers.

Boy dies in mysterious circumstances

A five-year old boy Frank Raphael, a resident of Kiserian village in Mlangarini ward of Arumeru district collapsed to death on January 3 while playing with his buddies at their home just before sunset.

The incident was reported by the child’s relative Issaya Iddi (47).
Police investigations and forensic checks to establish the cause of death are going on.

Meanwhile, the body of Gilbert Felix (35) has been picked from a foot path in Sombetini area in the municipality on January 3 at 8 am. The body showed no signs of injuries.

Good Samaritans reported the incident and police immediately collected it and took it to the Mount Meru Regional Hospital morgue.

Preliminary investigations have shown the late Felix had taken excessive alcohol the previous night which might have led to his death.

Falling wall smashes builder to death

A mason Kassim Hamisi resident of Ilboru has been smashed to death by a falling block wall at a building site on Plot Number 20 Block J along Seth Benjamin Street on January 3 at 11 am. He was building a medium rise structure for one Matchanb V/Sha.

According to Arusha’s Regional Police Commander Basilio Matei, the late Hamisi was breaking down part of the wall for adjustment when the whole part collapsed on him.

He was declared death on arrival at the Mount Meru Regional Hospital.

Police in collaboration with the Regional Engineer are carrying out investigations on the incident to determine if the three-storey building designed by Y and P Architects of Dar es Salaam met the standards required.

Meanwhile, Police have nabbed site engineers; Kamu Patel and Omary Mshangane for questioning in connection with the accident.

RPC Matei said the engineers’ survey on the building would determine cause of the accident.

Police nab Kenyans fiddling Barclays ATM

Two Kenyan nationals Amos Mwanambisi (31), a banker in Kenya and Moris Wamalwa (32) an electronic engineer are in police hands being suspected of attempting to draw cash from the Barclays Bank ATM using a fake visa card.
The card allegedly belongs to a Mwanza Branch customer Philipo Nasio Wamwala. The card is numbered 4874611005978068.

The two were in the company of a woman called Cesio when they visited the Barclays Bank ATM at the TFA Branch Arusha on January 1 at 9.30am but failed to withdraw cash.
According to the Arusha Regional Police Commander Basilio Matei, the three people who had arrived in two hired cars; with registration numbers T291 AKB Nissan and T895 AXN left the area in a taxi cab with registration numbers T891 AXN Toyota Mark II.

The following day, the three people again arrived at the TFA Barclays Bank Branch at 2 pm in the same taxi cab.
They asked a bank cashier, Frank Lyimo about the location of the main branch in Arusha as they had failed to get cash through the TFA branch ATM.

The bank cashier suspected the people and called police who found them with fake visa card and other bank documents.
The woman who is said to be a resident of Arusha and Nairobi escaped from the scene upon police arrival.
