TFA braces to improve services to farmers By Happy Lazaro The Tanganyika Farmers Association (TFA) Limited has elevated its Karatu sub-branch to a full branch in its bid to improve its services to farmers. The association assists farmers all over the country in buying and selling crops in internal and external markets as well s supplying them with farm inputs. TFA Managing Director Elias Mshiu underscored the importance of the upgrade of the branch at a ceremony last weekend officiated by Arusha’s Regional Commissioner Isidore Shirima. Mshiu said TFA has to identify viable internal and external markets and prevent exploitation of its members by greedy crop middle men. TFA’s other objective include participating in setting up fair trading system locally and internationally. He said in 2007 TFA inaugurated its five year strategic expansion plan so as to prepare itself for new challenges. The strategy is meant to improve TFA services offered to its members, customers and other stakeholders. Speaking at the ceremony the Regional Commissioner called on Karatu farmers to make maximum use of the limited land available in their locality to bring about a green revolution. Mr. Shirima called on TFA to fully participate in ensuring that basic inputs reached the peasants at grassroots level so as to improve their agriculture both for quantity and quality production.
