St. Jude opens second campus at Usa River

By Our Correspondent

St Jude may be the patron of hopeless causes but he certainly knows how to support a school! The excitement is mounting at the School of St Jude as it gets ready to officially open it’s second campus at Usa River next Tuesday 8th July. The ceremony starts at 9.30 am.

The school will be opened by the Tanzanian Minister for Education and Training, Jumanne Maghembe. Other special guests include the Australian High Commissioner Lisa Filipetto and the United States of America’s (USA) Ambassador Mark Green. Also present will be the Regional Commissioner Isidore Leka Shirima and the Arumeru District Commissioner Elias Wawa Lali.

The St Jude’s students have been preparing a range of dramatic and musical performances for many weeks to treat the guests with a full program of events. The Usa campus opening will also be a celebration of nations as the national anthems from Tanzania, Australia and the USA will all be sung by the students.

According to a press release issued by the school’s management, The School of St. Jude is a sponsorship-supported English Medium School that provides a free education for approx 1000 children from the lowest socio-economic backgrounds. The school was started in 2002 with only a handful of children at its first campus in Moshono. The school has now grown to approx 1000 students from Prep to Standard 7, 300 staff and also includes two boarding campuses.
