Turning Adventures into Golden opportunities

We should never resign ourselves to being yesterday's men and women. By that I mean giving up on life and its warm exuberance to go for more accomplishments. There was a man in the Bible called Caleb, Joshua's companion. At 85 he asked Joshua to give him the mountains so he could go to possess it. The old man had seen so many adventures and adversities and he was about ready to employ from his arsenal of old experiences and tools to take what belong to him and his clan. I remember taking stock in my small office in 1998 having encountered a failed business expedition up north. I reviewed my experiences and adventure in business for the last six years then since 1993 and I was grossly dissatisfied with my adventure into entrepreneurship. For three days I refused to go home and I wanted to know what I was doing wrong at that time. I confronted bitter truth about myself and approach to business and promised to make certain changes. Within one year, I closed two offices and made a strategic move to where my family was based then. I turned the adventures of so many miles traveled, endless exports and shipments, professional negotiations and marketing skills, stubborn and unyielding entrepreneurial efforts, financial engineering, thinking outside the box, etc into greater achievements for myself. By the time I sold that particular business in 2003, it was at a good profit not minding other rewards and networks it has brought me. That was also how I got into public speaking and personal development business. In the business world everybody is a wolf and nobody wants to applaud you. The day I got a standing ovation in one of my free speeches, the day I knew for myself that I should turn the adventure into profits. The character of your determination this year might turn your adventures into great accomplishments. It's too late to quit. Let's learn to turn our adventures and things we often take for granted into golden opportunities.

Firstly, you need to renew your spirit and reach a higher level of personal and professional achievement. I encourage you to find a quiet and powerful space in your day where you can renew your spirit and reflect on the things that make life a wonderful adventure. Let's name some of the things to be achieved this year. Communicating effectively with your family and colleagues, feeling the thrill of your accomplishments and victories, living an inspired life in the toughest of times, meeting obstacles and challenges with strength and clarity. These and more will unlock your natural creativity and resourcefulness. Secondly, Virginia Satir said Life is The Way It Is! "Life is not the way it is supposed to be. It is the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference." How you cope with life is determined by your mental attitude. How you view any situation depends on your beliefs and your values. How you cope with challenges can strengthen or weaken you. Some people have faced numerous challenges in their lives, yet maintained a positive outlook. Reinforce your coping strategies!

We shall close with Steve Brunkhorst's Three generations of wisdom. One day, a young man was cleaning out his late grandfather's belongings when he came across a bright red envelope. Written on the front were the words, "To my grandson." Recognizing his grandfather's writing, the boy opened the envelope. A letter inside read:
Dear Grandson, years ago you came to me for help. You said, "Grandpa how is it that you've accomplished so much in your life? You're still full of energy, and I'm already tired of struggling. How can I get that same enthusiasm that you've got?" I didn't know what to say to you then. But knowing my days are numbered, I figure that I owe you an answer. So here is what I believe. I think a lot of it has to do with how a person looks at things. I call it 'keeping your eyes wide open.' First, realize that life is filled with surprises, but many are good ones. If you don't keep watching for them, you'll miss half the excitement. Expect to be thrilled once in a while, and you will be. When you meet up with challenges, welcome them. They'll leave you wiser, stronger, and more capable than you were the day before. When you make a mistake, be grateful for the things it taught you. Resolve to use that lesson to help you reach your goals. And always follow the rules - even the little ones. When you follow the rules, life works. If you think you ever really get by with breaking the rules, you're only fooling yourself. It's also important to decide exactly what you want. Then keep your mind focused on it, and be prepared to receive it. But be ready to end up in some new places too. As you grow with the years, you'll be given bigger shoes to fill. So be ready for endings as well as challenging beginnings. Sometimes we have to be brave enough to move from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Life isn't just reaching peaks. Part of it is moving from one peak to the next. If you rest too long in between, you might be tempted to quit. Leave the past in the past. Climb the next mountain and enjoy the view.

Dump things that weigh you down emotionally and spiritually. When an old resentment, belief or attitude becomes heavy, lighten your load. Shed those hurtful attitudes that slow you down and drain your energy. Remember that your choices will create your successes and your failures. So consider all the pathways ahead, and decide which ones to follow. Then believe in yourself, get up, and get going. And be sure to take breaks once in a while. They'll give you a renewed commitment to your dreams, and a cheerful, healthy perception of the things that matter the most to you. Most important of all: never give up on yourself. The person that ends up a winner is the one who resolves to win. Give life everything you've got, and life will give its best back to you. Love always, Grandpa
On this three generation of wisdom I close today's breaking barriers and limits of mediocrity.
