The concert competition which took place at Via Via kicked off with a one- day workshop on Saturday 24. About 30 groups  participated in the event.

Music Crossroads is carrying out a nationwide tour of a series of workshops and live music competitions. The tour began on October 20 this year  in the Coastal Region (Bagamoyo)  and covered  Tanga , Morogoro , Mwanza and Arusha.  Before its climax  in February  the tour  will have covered also Dodoma , Iringa  and  Zanzibar.

Speaking with reporters about the Arusha festival, the Country Project Director, Edward Luwassa said: “The event went well all  and  participants are happy with the result.  We thank all the people who come to support us.”  He congratulated perfect youth group and Maalumundo Scud  who will represent Arusha in the national festival.

Music Crossroad is a youth empowerment initiative  through music program. It was initiated by Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), the world’s largest youth and music network, in 1995. With generous support from SIDA, Africalia Belgium, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign affairs and UNESCO, MCSA has developed into one of the largest African cultural projects and also the most important youth empowerment project on the African continent.

Music Crossroads also uses the opportunity bring HIV awareness amongst youth, by providing both musical and social educational opportunities through their Instrument training workshops and relationship workshops about HIV/AIDS. Music Crossroads gathers about 100 young participants at each festival under the age of 25, who are an important target group for HIV/AIDS information, and also gives them access for a forum to discuss sexuality and relations.
