TBL helps build church owned school

by Valentine marc Nkwame

For the Tanzania Adventist Secondary School, an institution belonging to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a boost from the local Breweries’ Plant should seem uncanny, but when there is an entire classroom block that needs finishing, a cheque of Tsh. 3 million should go a long way.

The monetary donation came from the Arusha plant of Tanzania Breweries Limited. It is aimed at assisting the school in its ongoing building projects.

Located in the remote Ngurdoto location of Arumeru, the Tanzania Adventist Secondary School, which according to the Deputy head-teacher Nuru Kimaro, was founded in 1999, suffers from dire shortages of buildings; especially classrooms.

The Tanzania Adventists Secondary School has 340 students, both day scholars and boarders.

“We also need more boarding facilities for both boys and girls, we have only one dormitory which is being used by female students, the male borders on the other hand, are temporarily staying at the ‘University of Arusha’ premises,” said the head-teacher.

The school’s teaching staff has no residential quarters either and most are subjected to commute from as far as Usa-River area to get to work each morning.

An unfinished block set to house two classroom and two staff rooms is currently collecting moss and according to the teacher the bank cheque of Tsh. 3 million from TBL will help advance the stagnant building project to a much better level and possibly completing it as well.

At the moment all the students are away, since the school has closed down for end-of-year holidays. “When they come back, God willing, they should find some changes around the school,” assured Mrs Kimaro.

Wilderson Kitia, the TBL sales manager, representing the Northern Zone, officially handed the cheque to the Deputy Head-teacher. According to Kitia his company has spent over Tsh. 300 million this year, assisting education projects in mostly Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam and Mwanza.

Next year, TBL’s community service program will continue assisting in the two major fields of education and health.
