TPRI braces for re-branding

by Wankyo Gatti

The Ngaramtoni based Tropical Pesticide Research Institute (TPRI) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has advised agricultural and livestock stakeholders to opt for "organic" pesticides instead of using poisonous chemicals.

The advice was issued by TPRI’s Deputy director, Dr. Roshen Abdallah during a review of the ordinances establishing the Institute.

Dr. Abdallah explained that the ordinance lacked important details and coverage for a multi-faceted institute such as TPRI.

She said they needed to include the TPRI’s 2005-2015 programme in the ordinance to make the institute more dynamic, use its infra-structural and human resources to full capacity for more sustainable development.

The deputy director also explained that the review was geared to remove contractions with other laws in the country.

TPRI is bracing to become an all round national and international institute that can cope with challenges of commerce, agriculture, environment and economic production in general.

TPRI is also bracing to be re-branded and acquire a new name that would make a more relevant and impressive reflection of its present functions.

The institute was established by an Act of Parliament in 1979.
