| Camartec launches new machinery
by Mrisho Mbogolume The Tengeru- based Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation and Rural Technology (CAMARTEC) recently launched new implements applying appropriate technologies. The implements launched at the Arusha Declaration grounds in Kaloleni area include tomato seed presser, tri-wheel cart, hay baler and mini tractor. The Acting Director General of the Centre, Mr. Wilson Baitani said his Centre has planned that by 2012, many other technologies would be rolled out for use by the increasing number of small and medium scale entrepreneurs. The objective of the Centre is to develop and disseminate improved technologies suitable for agricultural and rural development. "The activities are aimed at boosting agricultural production so as to improve the rural people quality of life," said Mr. Baitani. The Centre is disseminating its technologies through training, seminars, exhibitions and visits paid to the centre by the stakeholders. He pointed out that one of the achievements attained by his Centre was in 1980s, when it was awarded "World Quality Awarded of 21st Century" in Mexico. The Guest of Honour during the launching of the equipment and machinery, Mr. Florence Turuka, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing commended the management and workers of CAMARTEC for their innovations Mr. Turuka said that institutions handling research and technologies were now being allocated 72 percent of the budget of his Ministry which previously stood at 50 percent. He pointed out that this was the Government’s effort to improve such institutions.
