| University of Arusha attains
full certification
by Edward Selasini The University of Arusha which has successfully attained full certification and distinction from the Tanzania Commissions for Universities (TCU) has increased its students enrolment from 150 to 1200 students within three years. The university run under the auspices of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church is one of the 30 universities and university colleges in Tanzania absorbing the ever increasing number of students seeking enrolment in higher learning institutions. With its base at Usa River, Arumeru district, the University has established an extension campus in Arusha city. Speaking during the 1st graduation ceremony of the University on December 2 the Director General of Tanzania Education Authority Mrs. Mercy Sila commended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for establishing the institution of higher learning in support of the national plan to increase opportunities for higher learning in Tanzania. "As a Christian institution of higher learning, the university faculty, staff, continuing students, and graduating class are expected to set a presentable example of a well-molded character that should be visualized by the surrounding community, she said. Calling for a highest level of competence, she said, the 21st century demand for global competitiveness has awakened nations to realize their unprecedented demand for transformation and diversification of their education. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Vincent Goddard said the university was the only institution of higher learning owned and operated by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Tanzania. The University is intricately networked with 106 other SDA colleges and universities worldwide. "True, admittedly, we are not yet perfect. Indeed, after 37 years of our institutional life history, this must be similar to the proverbial mid-life challenge," said Dr. Goddard. The University is entering into its fourth year. The infrastructure of the
University is being improved including the recent completion of a
lecture room building, men’s dormitory, and staff houses. |
