Billing for new tourism
arrangement A new tourism bill is being proposed. Once the
parliament endorses it, chances are most foreign owned tour companies
will be sent packing, at least most people believe so. However whether
that happens, it will not be a problem, that is what others told

T here
are some operations in both the local tourism industry and other
investment sectors that can only be handled by indigenous people
and locally owned companies, without the need to solicit foreign
firms.
With proper assistance and
direction, local investors can perform wonders in the country’s
economy. Most alien companies simply reap fortunes here only to
take the loot back to their countries.

T he
existing foreign tour firms should be allowed to continue their
operations here but the government should not licence any more
companies from outside Tanzania. Before endorsing the new bill
however the parliament need to carry out an extensive research
into the industry.

T he
new proposed bill is okay in fact I wonder why it took so long
for it to come along. Local companies are now capable of doing
tourism business even more effectively than their foreign
counterparts.
There is nothing like ‘investment’
in tourism industry because all animals, sites, sceneries and
other land features occur naturally here, besides foreigners
leave nothing in the country because most of them take all the
money they earn, abroad.

I t
will be a good idea for the government to revoke licences of
foreign firms that conduct tourism business here. You see it is
just like having herds of cattle but letting aliens come and
milk them, leaving you with nothing.
I support the stand of
Patrick Bond in his analytical book, ‘Looting Africa!’ Most
investors here are just looters, there isn’t a single country
whose economy is boosted by foreigners, it takes ordinary
citizens to build their respective countries.
