Like Father Like Son By Our Correspondent
Dioniz Malinzi and Celtel's Arusha Branch Manager, Mr. Mirambo. The grueling 3 days of competition last weekend saw Victor Shirima emerge victorious in the Celtel Safari Open. Victor who is the Son of Tanzania Golf Union Chairman Mike Shirima, pulled all the stops to post a winning score of 216 Nett. The runners- up nett went to Phillip Wambugu who posted a score of 222 nett and the 2nd runners-up position went to Arusha Gymkhana Chairman Paul Matthysen on a score of 226 nett. In Division A which was a subsidiary category the Overall all winner was Shaabani Omari of Dar es Salaam with a score of 208 Nett while the runners - up position went to Godfrey Mtunguligwe on 214 Nett, The 2nd runners-up went to P.kondo also of Dar es salaam on 217 Nett. The 1st day 18 went to S.Mtupili of Dar es salaam on 70 nett. The 2nd day 18 holes was won by Judge S.Park of Arusha on a score of 71 nett while the 3rd day 18 went to S.Dilunga of Dar es Salaam on 73 nett. In the Ladies category the overall winner was Medina Iddi on a score of 216 nett while the runners up position went to Sophia Viggo of Moshi on a score of 225 nett. The Juniors prize went to K.. Lodhia while in the Caddies division the overall winner was J.Leons on 214 nett, and the runners- up was J.Saidi also on the same score. The Caddy Ladies prize went to Lina Francis. Speaking at the prize giving ceremony the Vice Chairman of TGU Mr Dioniz Malinzi thanked the sponsors Celtel for putting a lot of emphasis in supporting sports in the country and the Arusha Gymkhana for organising a well run tournament. He also commended the Arusha Gymkhana club for promoting golf amongst the caddies who could be the future representatives of Tanzania. Speaking on behalf of Celtel, the Arusha Branch Manager Mr Mirambo thanked all the participants for taking part, and reaffirmed the support of Celtel in sponsoring of future major events.
