Govt school to open in Burka area in January

The Government in Arusha Region has entered into an agreement with a building contractor, M.B. Builders Limited of Arusha to construct a public Secondary School which will be built through contributions from residents and other stakeholders in education development.

The agreement was signed on October 15 by Mr. Parvir S. Bhatia, the Director of the construction firm; Chairman of the Construction Committee, Mr. Mustafa Panju; and Acting Regional Administration Secretary, Ms. Matrida Bella, who signed on behalf of the Government.

The construction committee’s Chairman, Mr. Panju said the project would be in three phases. The first one started on September 5th, this year and is due for completion early next year. It will admit form one students in January.

The first phase will cost Shs. 253,818,000/= and so far the committee has collected more than Shs. 291,634,000/= from residents and various other stakeholders.

The total cost of the project, the chairman said, would be about shillings one billion and it will admit students, both boys and girls, from all districts of the Region, which are Monduli, Karatu, Arusha Municipality, Ngorongoro and Arumeru.

Ms. Bella said that those to be enrolled to the school would be those who pass the standard seven leaving examination from various primary schools in the region. She noted that the school, which is planned to have four streams, would teach both science and arts subjects and later on it will add a vocational unit so as to impart various skills thus prepare the students for self-employment.

Ms. Bella said that the idea setting up the school in the region was hatched during the era of former Arusha Regional Commissioner, Brigadier General Samwel Ndomba to mark the climax of Uhuru Torch Rally on October 14th , this year.

The first phase of construction of the school will include an administration block, two classrooms, one teacher’s house, library, assembly and dining halls.

The construction committee comprises, Mr. Panju as a Chairman while other committee members are Raymond Mapunda, Paul Nginila, Jackson Saitabau and Abdallah Mwandu. Others are Elishilia Kaaya, Samwel Lema, Hans Tosky, Manoj Vaghera, Anna Rweyemamu and Rajab.
