Gamdust Haji of Arusha last week made it to the top again in the short distance race dubbed Baba Dee Rally held at Meserani area in Monduli district.

Haji with his navigator, Bakari Selemani in their Subaru STN 10 successfully finished the toughest short distance rally ever held in Arusha in 4:28:59 without losing any points.

Dennis Minja, a new face in the motor rally, came second clocking 4:51:59 while Khalid Hassan and his navigator Shadad Ismail made to the third position in 4:54:51 and Issa Majala and his navigator Mohamed Kamal with 5:18:21 timing.

The rally organized and named Baba Dee (David Kidawawa) rally was run in order to raise funds for buying a reliable sports car for the coming national Nane Nane Tanzania One Rally. It was flagged off at David Kidawawa’s grounds.

Another objective of the rally was to prepare Arusha drivers in tough narrow track motor rallies such as the coming Nane Nane one.

The official guest at the rally was Arusha’s District Commissioner, Evance Balama but was represented by Arusha Motor Rally Chairman, Walter Maeda.

Maeda commended Baba Dee (David Kidawawa) for organizing the event. He officially handed the rally trophy to the winners Haji and Suleiman and contributed Tsh.100,000 towards the fund for acquisition of the Baba Dee motor rally sports vehicle.

Haji, who had also recently won the Sunny Safaris motor rally, said the Baba Dee rally was the toughest he has experienced as it was run on too narrow and cris-crossing paths.

Haji said he won due to time management he closely observed throughout the drive.

The organizing driver Baba Dee himself failed to make it to the end as his car broke down on the final course of the drive.
