Karibu Fair a welcome show but ...

Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair is here ...for the eighth time. But shouldn’t the events be given some face lift? Things like a better venue, permanent premises and isn’t time for the Government to give some support? Raymond John went around to find out.

As a local platform on which the country’s tourism industry can be showcased, the Karibu Fair needs more than the current three days of display. Organizers should think of adding more time to the event, in order to allow more people to attend and provide ample time for exhibitors to reach their marketing goals.

Tourism is an important economic sector in the country and the government needs to support it in every aspect including backing events like Karibu Travel and Tourism fairs.

Michael Alexander - Arusha

Karibu fairs are becoming an international phenomenon. You can see this by the increasing number of participants every year. The events also help to boost the local tourism sector.

The hundreds of visitor sample the town’s offerings in terms of food, clothing and shelter, thus helping to support local traders. Some visitors connect their fair outing with visits to the game parks immediately after Karibu winds up.

Still, the venue leaves a lot to be desired. The Kisongo open space, can get quite dusty during dry spells and to make the matter worse, there are no water sources nearby.

Elizabeth Fabian - Arusha

I think the only concern so far, regarding Karibu fairs is the issue of venue. The event needs a proper and permanent venue. This an important consideration because Karibu Fairs are more than seven years old now and may need to grow, advance and change for the better.

With thousands of people from around the world coming to attend the event every year, the Government should think of providing land for the shows.

Caroline Somi - Arusha

Tanzanian Tourism need to be highly promoted and the series of annual Karibu fairs are just the right vehicles for the purpose. But promotion must go with improved tourists packages, some roads leading to the local National Parks are in pathetic condition and hotels may want to step up their services and standards.

Peter Ole Moson - Arusha
