Running for president Impala-Ngurdoto race scheduled for September Preparations are underway for the third edition of the Impala-Ngurdoto road race scheduled to take place on September 15 in Arusha blazing both the Arusha municipality and Arumeru district. The 25-km race has been organized in recognition of President Jakaya Kikwete‘s efforts to promote sports in the country, according to Arusha track and field club chairman, Felix Ngowo. Runners in the event would compete in three categories, namely the five, ten and 25km races. Apart from prominent politicians and other public figures, the race would also feature some of the country’s top runners, including defending champion, Fabian Joseph, Samson Ramadhani and Francis Naali. "Fabian Joseph has confirmed that he will defend the title he won last year. His presence should go a long way in making the race a highly competitive event," Ngowo told the Citizen. Kenya and Uganda are also expected to field their top runners in the race. "We are looking forward to seeing some of the biggest names in athletics from Kenya and Uganda running in the race, which is fast gaining prominence in this part of Africa." The race which normally climaxes with a lunchon at the upmarket Ngurdoto Moutain Lodge has also become useful in identifying budding athletics talent that could put Tanzania on the world athletics map with proper training and exposure.
