Courts/Police Log Woman dies in daladala A woman identified by the name of Mary Bertha estimated to be 35 years old died in a town bus commuting between Njiro and Arusha town centre The incident occurred on Sunday, May 20th at 11:30 a.m. The deceased was a passenger in the bus and she was returning from church at Njiro. Explaining the incident, the Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei said that the deceased embarked on the bus T 527 AHF Toyota Hiace, as a passenger and she leaned on the seat and her fellow passengers assumed that she had been relaxing. According to Matei, when the bus conductor started to collect the fares, he attempted to wake her up but she did not respond and he assumed that she had been fast asleep so he postponed to collect her fare until she reaches the commuter bus terminal. When the bus reached its terminal, other passengers disembarked and the woman remained in the bus still leaning. The bus crew decided to report the matter to the Police Station and later she was taken to the Mount Meru Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. However, the cause of the death has not yet been established and the body was preserved in the morturary of the Mount Meru Hospital.

18-year-old boy faces robbery charges by Happy Lazaro A Ngusero resident in Arusha region is facing charges of armed robbery and stealing cash money Tsh.690,000 the property of one Salma Isaya. The prosecutor, Theopista Mallya read the charges before Resident Magistrate Faisali Kahamba on May 16. The accused, Hassan Ramadhani (18) is alleged to have committed the offence on April this year at about 9.00 pm at Banda Mbili area in Arusha region. It was alleged that the accused used a knife to threaten Issaya before obtaining the said property. The accused denied the charges and is still under custody until May 28, this year when his case will be mentioned again.
19-year old Sanawari woman dies in bus crash ONE of the victims of the ill-fated Mvungi Trans Bus that was involved in a road accident near Moshi on Monday has died of severe injuries sustained during the mishap. The deceased, Veronica Mbise (19), of Sanawari, Arusha, who died on Monday afternoon, was one of the eight casualties transferred to the KCMC Referral Hospital from the Mawenzi Regional Hospital. They had sustained serious injuries in the accident that occurred at Sango on the outskirts of Moshi Municipality on Monday morning, injuring 29 other people. A KCMC Hospital worker who preferred anonymity confirmed to This Day the death of Ms Mbise -- who was pregnant. According to the source, an ultra-sound examination showed that the foetus inside the womb had died and that its mother died as doctors were trying to save her life -- attributing her death to heavy bleeding from severe injuries. KCMC now has only six of the accident victims, most of them said to be ’doing fine.’ Those recuperating at the KCMC, are Mohamed Salum (57) from Ugweno in Mwanga District, Ramadhan Hamza (32) with his five-year-old child, Hamza, and Habiba Sulemani (25) from Njiro, Arusha. Others are Mbonea Joel (29) from Ugweno and Fatuma Hashim (28), a resident of Kisongo in Arumeru district. The Kilimanajro Regional Police Commander, ACP Lucas Ng’hoboko, confirmed that six of the nine accident victims who were admitted at the Mawenzi Regional Hospital have been discharged. There are only three left, he said.
Two deny stealing from a shop by Happy Lazaro Two residents of Sanawari ya Juu in Arumeru district are facing charges of stealing various items valued at Tsh.1,492,200 from a shop belonging to Emmanuel Silvester. The accused are Aaron Machenje (25) and Edward Daniel (20). They are alleged to have committed the offence on May 3 this year at about 1.00 pm at Kimandolu area in the municipality. The prosecutor, Isongero Iserebe pressed the charges before Resident Magistrate, Didas Mlay on May 16 this year. The accused alleged to have stolen an assortment of items including sugar, rice, cooking oil, sandals, exercise books, cigarettes, medicines, among others. The accused denied the charges but were placed in custody until May 28, this year when their case will be mentioned again.
