Providing pleasure and luxury By Elisha Mayallah After a year of wandering around in Dar es Salaam, Marangu and Lushoto, and worrying about what sights to see, where to eat, how to fit them all in time-wise and so on became the alternative stressing life out there nearly daily. I set out to highlight the good times but controversy kept on tracking me down. Simply put, I found myself feeling strangely depressed. The stays were meant to be relaxing but turned out to be the opposite. I realized stays are made to be filled with happy memories. All I needed then was to find my way back to my home town - Arusha. Before I left Lushoto it had been some time since my last trip to Arusha, and was glad to see that things had changed so much. I was irrepressibly excited about my return to Arusha. The people were still there yes, but new business has come up and more particularly new hotels have come on-board, all in the vicinity of the Central Business District. At least three new hotels are getting the last coat of paint in Arusha. The first striking thing as you enter the central bus station is the imposing structure of Hotel Aquiline. First impressions of the hotel may give the visitor allusions of grandeur and those expecting less are likely to be disappointed, but the hotel has no pretensions beyond its motto – "Providing Pleasure and Luxury" Seated at the intersection of two feeder roads, this attractive looking pioneer building seems to catch every eye passing nearby. A walk along the neigbourhood rewards the enthusiast with sightings of hundred of people going about their daily life. Situated nearly 1380m above sea level, the hotel's location offer magnificent views from the mezzanine floor, including view of the second highest mountain in Africa, Meru perched at 4566m. The second thing you realize is that this hotel may be an important centre for the Arusha people as it has blended well with the neighbourhood and managed to retain its authenticity. It is a walking distance to a few banks, supermarkets and shops; this hotel gives its guests an opportunity to explore the areas in the vicinity to the fullest. The easy proximity provides an excursion with varied purposes. Built in the west part of the town, the hotel has a serenity that is perfect for both the travelling public and locals needing some solace. This is the place to go if you are looking for a place to talk to yourself. As a matter of fact, most people who have visited the place give an impression that it is a 'near paradise.' "It offers a good retreat for visitors and town dwellers, and is guaranteed to restore the soul," said the Managing Director, Mr. Charles Makoi. The hotel offers pleasurable accommodation facilities with high standards of architecture and design. With a choice of 48 elegant and spacious rooms embedded with comfort and tranquillity, the hotel is likely to attract corporate clients as well as tourists. Hotel Aquiline must surely be one of the most rewarding hotels of our times for unspoilt relaxation and homely.
