by Edward Selasini Orphans and street children in Arusha municipality have got a new home located at Mianzini. It is known as Tanzania Community Development Alliance (TACODA) Children's Home. The new home received its registration from the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 13. TACODA was established in June last year. TACODA's Director and Founder, Mrs Donata T. Arden said the home started with street boys ranging from 12 years to 15 years but proved difficult to live with the boys. "These bigger boys don't want to live here because they still want to hang out in the streets. Some even dare to demand money to go and buy drugs like bhang and glue for sniffing", said Mrs Arden. Currently, TACODA home has 12 young boys who are orphans ranging from three years to eight years old. All the children are in schools in Arusha municipality as some are at Levolosi primary school, Naura primary school and Kaloleni primary school. They all live at TACODA and they are served with all the basic needs and including an Art lesson which is taught at the home. Mrs Arden said their main objectives are to enable children and orphans improve mentally, physically, morally, ethically and academically to identify and develop their talents and skills and also to provide entertainment and relaxation to both actors and public. In general TACODA children's home is giving them a chance to escape the poverty into which they have been born. TACODA has established a relationship with a local non profit organization called Watoto Foundation of Tengeru which is directed and sponsored by Dutch people whereby after the children at TACODA finish their primary education some can join it for vocational training. Mrs Arden said most of the funds to run the children's homes comes from The Jim Arden Foundation of the United States of America. The foundation is run by Donata husband, Jim Arden who is in the USA. Mrs Arden met Jim Arden in Arusha when working as a hotelier in a tourist hotel and they had same vision and they joined and became one and started the foundation. TACODA owns a youth football team but the football players are youths living at Kaloleni and Soweto areas of Arusha municipality TACODA's Director Mrs. Arden is leaving for the US on 28th February 2006 for a fund raising of Tsh. 52,000,000 for purchasing a one storey building at Sakina. The home they are currently using they pay about 200 US Dollars a month. TACODA mobilizes children in Arusha municipality including street children because all children have equal opportunity to fulfill their own potential in life, touch a life and make a difference.
