By Matilda Kirenga A prominent and widely popular Arusha businessman Ibrahim Dahal passed away at the St. Thomas Hospital in the municipality early on February 13. He was buried the same day at the Kaloleni cemetery. His son Kassim Dahal estimated the age of his late father at 83. He told the Arusha Times that he briefly suffered chest pains before his death just after midnight. Mourners assembled at his home in Corridor Area along Njiro Road described him as "A man of the People" who will be missed by all and never forgotten for his kindness and jovial mood. An ardent golf player, the late Dahal had worked in constructions companies including Mowlem in Kampala, Uganda and Nairobi, Kenya before moving to Arusha in the 1960s where he worked with the Arusha Machinery Services along Uhuru Road opposite what is now known as the Microfinance Bank. In the 1970s Dahal joined Alfi East African Limited which produced an assortment of cosmetics and toiletries before eventually establishing his own toothpaste factory in Unga Limited area with Themi Dent being his flagship product. Among his other enterprises were a tour company, travel agency, bureau de change and construction company . His funeral and burial was attended my many Arusha residents, regional and district leaders and the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces officials. Arusha's former Regional Commissioner, Mr. Mohamed Babu (who has now been transferred to Kilimanjaro Region) and Arusha's District Commissioner, Mr. Fulgence Saria were among leaders who attended the burial.
