The ugly face of death
Eyes roll and stare in nakedness
Mouth twisted in a curve of mockery
The body docile and stiff in posture
With limbs dry and cracking
The ugly face of death so shocking
Whether the body in the streets of Baghdad
Death reminiscent of gushing bullet wounds
Of the insatiable pursuit of riches in Africa
Or from the debris of the flattened twin towers
Be it from the capital penalty of shame
Death remains ugly and disgustful
Death remains ugly and disgustful
Be it of a terrorist or a saintly pretender
Eyes will roll and stare in nakedness
Till humanly gesture attends the eyelids
Gently attending the yawning mouth
Hiding the smile that never was
Death the gate way to eternity
Though instilling fear and uproar
As piecing cries of moaning fill the air
Bodies lying in limbo and merry caskets
While others rot out in the bushes of Bunia
This is the irony of our times |
