We have just been
training the youths on how to abstain from promiscuous
sex through a special program known as ABY or ‘Abstain
and Behavioral changes for the Youth,’ which we have
launched in Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Dar-es-salaam
regions. The Tanzania Girl Guides Association based in
Arusha is coordinating the program and so far we have
started with about 13 local schools from which we train
2 pupils from each.

The US- based
International Youth Foundation and the local CRDB bank
have assisted in funding this training program, aimed at
training young people on how to fight the HIV-Aids
pandemic through abstinence from sex.We have realized
that condoms do not work and in fact their use encourage
youths to indulge in sexual relations.

It is quite a
promising program and therefore I would like to appeal
to other banking institutions to emulate CRDB’s example
by joining forces with the Girl Guides here in making
ABY a success for the benefit of future generations.
HIV-Aids is still a worldwide problem with no possible
cure in the offing and as a result it is now upon us to
ensure the pandemic does not sweep away the people we
depend on for the future. .

Personally I blame
the popular adverts both in the media and billboards
displaying pictures of young ladies promoting the use of
condoms. Anybody advising people to use condoms is
instructing them to practise promiscuous sex and
likewise to contact HIV-Aids. It is therefore very
important and in fact crucial, for the community to
educate the youths and all other people to totally
abstain from sex, with or without condoms.
