Magereza warms up for all forces games By Matilda Kirenga Magereza (Prisons), vying to be leaders in the forthcoming armed forces games, have already started daily practices at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium and other sporting fields and environs of Arusha. The venue for the forces games that are scheduled to take place early next month has not yet been determined but there are possibilities that they will be held in Arusha. Forces that are expected to participate in the games include the Tanzania Peoples Defence Forces, National Service, Police , Magereza and Fire Brigade. Teams are drawn from both Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar. According to Magereza’s coach , Michael Washa events and games that will be competed during the meet include 100 to 10,000 metres, 21 kilometres marathon, long jump, high jump, javelin, shot put, boxing, football, swimming, netball, basketball, wrestling, hockey and volleyball. The competitions are aimed at enhancing sports and safeguard the health of those serving in the forces. The games are held every year but due to unavoidable circumstances they were not held last year. In 2004 the games were held in Zanzibar.
