A nightmare on Suye Hill?

When the Municipal Council officials recently forced local artisan garage operators to shift from town to Suye area little did they know that such a decision needed adequate preparation. Raymond John went to the yard and heard the following.

There should have been prior arrangements before whisking local Garage operators to Suye Hill where apparently, there is very little space to operate on. Most people are now stranded without a place to work on. This area also has just a single toilet and without even running water. The local electricity supply company (TANESCO) is claiming that they have run out of power Meters, thus connections have to wait.

Further more, we have just realized that, our workshops will be located right next to a school, now this is rather absurd, garages and class learning can never mix. Surely something has to be done about this.

in 2004 the council ordered that all garages should move from town to Suye. We were the first to heed the call and came here where the 11 of us got allocated with plots. Surprisingly though, last week, the municipal people came and issued out the same plot to other people, despite the fact that, we had already fenced it.

When we complained, the officers told us they will allocate us with another plot of land, but when or where, remains a mystery.

We have no objection in the exercise to shift street garages from town to Suye, because we are quite aware that, Arusha is expanding and there is also the need to keep the town clean and less congested.

What everybody is lamenting about here, is poor arrangement on the part of the council, because right now some of us have not yet been given plots to operate on. We are stranded, cannot work, have no idea how we will start to set up the operating premises once the said plot finally gets issued.

Mind you, we need to eat, pay rent, educate our children but more important, repair the vehicles that were left to us by their owners. There are also expensive equipment and spare parts being put at risk.
