Police suspect arson in house fire incident

Four members of a family have suffered serious fire burns after their house
caught fire. The house was razed down to ashes at Mbauda on 7th September at
12.30 am while members of the family were asleep.
The Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei, mentioned the victims as Jamila
Ismail (37) the mother; a house worker Hemed Daudi (16); Daniel Daudi (5) and
Apaeli Daudi (7). All suffered severe body burns.
The RPC said the father of the family, Daudi Marko (39) was helped by neighbours
in his endeavours to save his family from the collapsing house. The victims have
been admitted at the Mount Meru regional hospital.
The cause of the fire in the four-room house is yet to be established but it is
believed the house must have been set ablaze by an arsonist.
A suspect by a name of John Tlehema (38) is in police hands in connection with
the incidence and police are going on with investigations.
Man loses 5m/= in tanzanite deal

A Sakina resident, Arbogast Gabriel (35) is facing charges of stealing 17 grams
of Tanzanite valued at Tsh.5,000,000 from one Charles Ernest.
Inspector Theopista Mallya pressed the charges before the Resident Magistrate,
Didas Mlay. The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on August 18
this year at about 12.00 noon at OTTU building near the central market place.
The accused is said to have been entrusted the gemstones so as to sell them but
after finding a buyer and receiving the money he took the amount for his own
use.
The accused appeared in court for the first time on September 7 this year and
denied the charges.
He is out on bail of Tsh.2,000,000 with one surety. The case will be mentioned
again on September 22 this year.
Meanwhile, Boniface Meshack (26) a Shamsi resident has also been arraigned in
court allegedly for been found in possession of Marijuana (bhang) weighing
320kg.
Inspector Stella Rweyemamu presented the charges before Resident Magistrate,
Faisali Kahamba on September 7 this year.
The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on August 12 this year at
about 10.20am at Shamsi area in Arusha municipality.
The accused denied the charges and he is still under police custody until
September 21 this year when the case will be mentioned again.
Police introduce cameras to monitor traffic offences

The Police force has started using a new method of monitoring reckless drivers
and dilapidated junks driven on Arusha’s roads.
Addressing reporters in his office, the Regional Police Commander, Basilio Matei,
said the method involve use of concealed camera to net reckless drivers,
overloading vehicles, defective vehicles, illegal commuter lorries and wrong
packing.
The RPC said pictures will later be shown to the car owners and they will have
no defence but to pay fines imposed on them.
He said drivers will now have to be more cautious under the new system as their
offences will come to light even without physical appearance of the traffic
police on the roads.
