| "Born City" driver charged with causing death of
passengers by Happy Lazaro The driver of the bus which overturned last week at the Minjingu junction along Dodoma Road causing the death of five people has been charged in court. The driver, Anwar Hassan, 36 years old, is a resident of Mianzini in Arusha and was driving the ill-fated bus with flagship "Born City". He appeared before Resident Magistrate, Sundi Fimbo on May 3 alleged that he has caused deaths and injuries through careless driving of a motor vehicle in a public road. Five people died on the spot and 20 others were seriously injured when the Singida bound bus overturned on May 2 this year at about 8.30 am. Pressing the charges, Inspector Shammy Dunia alleged that the accused drove the motor vehicle with registration No. T517 ABT carelessly, overturning it and causing death to his five passengers and injuries to others. The accused denied the charges but was whisked back to remand jail pending further investigations. The case will be mentioned in court again on May 3.
