Sanare laid to rest at his village

Grief dominated the atmosphere on Tuesday, May 9 as the late Melkizedeck Emmanuel Sanare was laid to rest at his home village of Bangata in Arumeru District. Thousands of people, many of them struck with awe and shock, turned out to pay last respects to him despite a day long drizzle.

At the time of his death, Sanare who has served the nation in various capacities was Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office.

The Late Sanare died on May 5 after a long battle with cancer. In 1999 he suffered a stroke and was taken to South Africa for treatment. He recovered but in 2005 started suffering from skin cancer which led him to undergo Radiotherapy treatment.

He has been receiving treatment at the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute Department (MOI) and Ocean Road Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The burial sermon was conducted by the Evangelical Lutheran Church Arusha Diocese Bishop Thomas Laizer. He paid tribute to the late Sanare describing him as a hard working man who lived with people in harmony.

The Late Sanare, he said, was a honest person and God fearing man. He urged his family to emulate him by cooperating in all matters and continue loving each other.

Prime Minister Edward Lowassa expressed his condolences and conveyed to the family a message from President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete also expressing grief and support to the family.
Other top ranking government officials including former prime minister Frederic Sumaye, attended the burial.
Sanare was born in 1947 in Bangata Village. He attended Kimandolu Primary school from 1954 to 1957 then joined Mringa Middle School before attending Old Moshi Secondary School (O-Level).

Between 1966 and 1967 he did his advanced level studies at Old Moshi Secondary School. He achieved a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi in 1971 and was awarded a Master's Degree in 1977 at Arthur D. Little Management Institute in USA.

Leadership positions that he held include: Managing Director and Chairman of the National Transport Corporation (NTC); Managing Director of Air Tanzania; Commissioner for the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA); and Advisor to the Prime Minister on matters regarding trade and investments.

He has also served as a board member of various institutions.

Sanare is survived by his wife Adelaide Sanare, three children and one grandson.
