Traditional dance group faces the music
By Matilda Kirenga
The African Traditional Dance Group (ATDG) which won the last year=s Kilimanjaro
Music Awards category for Traditional Music and Dancing, is currently facing the
music - out in the cold, after being thrown out of the Arusha Declaration Museum
hall, which used to serve as their base.
Speaking on behalf of the Group Director, one of the ATDG officials, Perfect
Elias said the notice to vacate the premises was issued to the group since last
December but it was recently that they finally got thrown out.
As far as Elias is concerned, his group was given permission to be using the
premises for practicing and carrying out their various artistic activities by
previous Museum management but of late, some misunderstanding with the new
management cropped up. He added that, this lead to their eviction.
The Curator for the Arusha Declaration Museum, Jackson Washa has however
explained that the group was supposed to be paying a monthly rental fee of
Tsh.51,000 but apparently, ATDG have been accumulating a rather large debt of
previously skipped payments.
