Babu urges people to register or else they'll lose their right to vote

The Arusha Regional Commissioner, Mohamed Babu has appealed to residents of Karatu district in Arusha region to come out and register in large numbers in the permanent voters register. Mr. Babu who has been on a tour of Karatu district visited Mikocheni and Endamagha villages among others.
The voter registration exercise kicked off in Arusha region on 19th February and is expected to continue up to 11th March this year.
Mr. Babu appealed to all residents of Karatu who have attained the age of 18 years and are of sound mind to register as voters in the permanent register saying that it was only through registering as voters that they could be able to participate in the forthcoming presidential, parliamentary and civic elections.
He emphasized that the registration period will not be extended thus everyone who is of sound mind and therefore eligible to vote during this year=s election is supposed to register as a voter within the stipulated period that has been fixed by the electoral commission.
During his whistle-stop tour of Karatu district, Mr. Babu also inspected various development projects in the district, including the laying of the foundation stone of seven classrooms of Misingi primary school and commissioning of eight teachers houses in Mikocheni, Endamagha, Mangisa and Gamdi villages.
The Regional Commissioner also appealed to residents of Karatu to ensure that construction of classrooms and teachers houses were completed in good time to enable more pupils enrol for primary education.
He also used the same tour to urge parents to make sure that every child of school going age was enrolled in standard one and continue with his or her primary education up to standard seven.
Mr. Babu said that reports he received from various schools showed an increase in attendance from 10 to 15 per cent.
Mr. Babu deplored certain incidences where parents married off their young daughters to old men, saying such parents who married off their daughters and such men who end up marrying young girls instead of allowing them to continue with their education should be reported to the relevant authorities and dealt with according to laws governing education in the country.
The Regional Commissioner also appealed to the district commissioner, district officers, divisional officers and other leaders in Arusha region to report those parents who marry off their daughters to old men to law enforcement agencies instead of handling such cases at village level saying that such acts ended up lowering the level of education in the region.
Speaking to residents of Barazani, Endamagha, Mikocheni and Gyetighi in Karatu district, Mr.
Mr. Babu appealed to residents of Arusha to sell parts of their livestock in order to buy enough food for themselves and their families saying that food was now available in plenty and cheaply while the price of livestock was very attractive in the market thus each individual should acquire enough food in advance.
