Ultimate Security recover cash from Kijenge muggers
by Staff Reporter
Juliet Zavala closed her shop at Nane Nane grounds at 8.00pm last Saturday eager
to go home to spend the evening with her family. Her expectations of a serene
family gathering were shattered hardly 30 minutes later when she alighted from a
dala dala bus at the Kijenge roundabout.
She was the only passenger who alighted there and as soon as the mini bus zoomed
away two men emerged from darkness giving a quick order: AGive us your hand bag
or else we kill you@.
Juliet did not easily surrender her bags and instead, shouting Athieves@, she
hit one of the thugs nearer to her with a Ahot@ pot that she was carrying. The
thugs, in brutal retaliation, showered her with fists on her face and kicks on
her body. That no one came to rescue her from the ordeal, she let her bags go.
After what they had considered an easy prey the thugs ran by the new perimeter
wall
separating the Greek Club and Maharajah Restaurant compounds and took a breather
at the playing ground near Barclays Bank. A perfect place, they thought, to
split the loot.
When they opened the bag they were mesmerized to see a wad of new bank notes of
10,000/= each smartly placed in one of the bag=s compartment. A Tembo Credit
Card, driver=s license and Identity Card neatly lay by. Who gets what became an
issue and a fight ensued between the two muggers, but little did they know that
Ultimate Security guards were watching them nearby.
In unison the guards descended rocks on them. The muggers took to their heels
leaving behind the handbag intact with its contents.
What ensued is rather unusual, according to Masoud Hussein husband of the
robbery victim.
The guards counted the money realizing a total of Tsh.220,000/=. Inside the bag
they found a piece of paper with a telephone number that happened to be of
Juliet=s relative in Dar es Salaam. They informed her about the incident and
same night she called Juliet=s husband in Arusha who minutes later reported at
the Ultimate Security base near Barclays Bank. One of the guards, Godwin Noel
Maturo handed Mr. Hussein, the hand bag with all its contents, after identifying
himself.
Juliet who was nursing her wounds at her apartment at the AICC Kijenge
residential area had reason to smile when she saw her husband back home
clutching her handbag which was stolen the same night and with the same amount
of money she had when she closed her Videoland shop. Celebration.
