Stadium now closed down for ‘touch ups!'
By Nassib Majamba
After one of its walls crumbled down almost killing a plumber last week, the
Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium has now been closed down for renovations, the Arusha
Times has learned.
However the Stadium manager, Mashaka Ngwabi Mrisho has pointed out that, the
renovations have nothing to do with the last week's accident, but are rather
aimed at preparing the venue for the forthcoming East and Central Africa club
championships that are likely to take place in Arusha.
According to the Stadium manager, the renovations will mainly be focused on the
football pitch which has so far developed ‘bald' patches that need to be filled
and a number of mole hills have also sprung up from the ground thus need to be
demolished and leveled.
The manager explained that, since the National Stadium in Dar es salaam has been
closed down for major reconstructions, the East and Central club championships
will likely be shifted to either Arusha municipality or Mwanza city.
Mrisho added that, the forthcoming, Vodacom's first division league will also
have some of its 30 soccer matches played at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium,
since the event will be taking place in "Home and Away!" arrangement.
