Veteran marathon star dies in Loliondo

Veteran Marathon athletic, Emmanuel Ndyemandoi, who earned the Nation a number
of accolades during his hay days in the seventies and eighties passed away
recently at his home in the Sale ward of the Loliondo location, in Ngorongoro
district.
News of the death of the legendary long distance runner reached Arusha last week
long after Ndyemandoi was buried. Until going to press, it was still not clear
of what caused the veteran Marathon's death.
Ndyemandoi made his first mark as a runner to reckon with during the East and
Central Africa championships held in the Mogadishu capital of Somalia in 1977
and emerged the overall winner.
The late athlete had also participated in many international marathon events,
among them the Commonwealth games, that took place in Edmonton Canada in 1978
and the New York International Marathon of 1979.
The late Ndyemandoi was among the prominent figures in the 1980 Olympic games
held in Moscow the capital of the then Communist Russia.
Other than taking part in International Marathons, the late athlete also
participated in all National racing events held from 1976 to 1980 and winning a
good number of them.
