Arusha Rhinos fly off to face Dar Leopards
By Our Rugby Correspondent
The Arusha Rhinos head into this weekends game against the Dar
Leopards with plenty of confidence after defeating the Moshi Kili Cats 43 - 6 in
their first game of the 2005 Rugby National League.
The defending champions ran in seven unanswered tries in front of a crowd of
around 100 spectators at the ISM Arusha campus last Saturday.
Rhinos hooker and man of the match, Paul Olivier, was outstanding in both attack
and defence and was rewarded with a try late in the game, while captain and
flanker John Lloyd put in a typically devastating display scoring two tries.
The lopsided score line does not however reflect the intensity of the game and
every Moshi player deserves credit for his level of commitment on the day.
The curtain raiser matches included a school boy's touch rugby match and a high
quality game of 15 a side girl's rugby – testament to the growing popularity of
rugby not only in Arusha but throughout Tanzania.
Special thanks to Tanzania Breweries Ltd. and Upper Zonal Trading Ltd. for
donating beer and wine on the day. The Arusha Rhinos Rugby Club was able to
collect TSh 300,000.00 towards the ISM Arusha Tsunami Appeal.
The Rhinos fly to Dar on Saturday morning with sponsors Northern Air before
running out against the Leopards at 3.30pm at the Gymkhana ground.
