Violent storm wreaks havoc in Muriet

A violent storm blew off roofs of five buildings belonging to Huruma Children
Trust situated in Muriet in Arusha municipality last week.
The violent storm which was later followed by a heavy down pour that spread very
fast and destroyed 20 other houses rendering more than 80 people homeless and
thus forcing them to seek temporary shelter from their neighbours.
According to the village elder, Mr. William Kalaya the incident occurred on
Monday evening leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
According to the caretaker of the institute, Mrs Godliver Rwegumam, the violent
storm destroyed several roofs of buildings. It is estimated that the damage
caused is Tsh.1.6 million or more.
A ward official of Muriet, Mr. Lesikai Siyatoi said that the actual damage
caused could not be determined immediately and that valuation was still going on
to determine actual damage caused by the violent storm.
The residents of Muriet also said that the village suffered the same fate last
year, but the extent of the damage caused could not be compared to the damage
caused this year.
