Thin line between garages and garbage

The Municipal Council recently ordered roadside vehicle repair shops to be shifted to Suye where lad has been set aside for them. Like many other Council initiatives, its implementation leaves much to be desired.

  • Next to the long standing problem of garbage, street garages are the most annoying things in town at the moment. People have been suffering under chocking fumes and pungent smell from these illegal motor repair workshops.

Shifting garages from town is a good idea but the council needs to address other problems as well, such as the issue of garbage whose handling is still not good at all.

Town streets have always been impassable due to faulty vehicles parked along them in the name of garages. The decision to move the workshops from town is a good one so as to keep open spaces safe and unobstructed.

But the council is far from accomplishing its task, the town is extremely dirty despite Arusha bracing to become a city.

There have been garages at almost every corner in town. As the result, the streets have been littered with scrap metals, murky oil spills and other automobile pollutants.

After clearing away random built wooden shacks from town, Arusha has been looking good but removing street garages will make it even better.

Garages are not only illegal in town but their presence is unhealthy for residents, plus they contribute in making the town very dirty. The council had directed them to be shift to Suye, but the directive has not been implemented.

Not surprising because even the allocated land is not enough to accommodate all the garages that should be shifted from town, the council needs to find more plot for the garages.
