Naali, Mrashani vie for medals in Moshi meet

Two Commonwealth medalists of full Marathon race from Tanzania, Francis Naali
and Simon Mrashani are among the international runners who have confirmed their
participation in this year's Mount Kilimanjaro International Marathon, the
Kilimanjaro Regional Athletics team coach, Mikuni Abraham has told the Arusha
Times.
This year's Mount Kilimanjaro International competition is scheduled to take
place in Moshi before the end of February.
Naali was the first Tanzanian to win a commonwealth gold medal in the 42
kilometer race that took place in the UK while Mrashan was a silver medal winner
of the Comonwealth Marathon in Malaysia.
Both runners are employed by the Tanzania Police College based in Moshi (CCP).
Abraham said they are both in good shape and will perform well in the
forthcoming meet.
other runners in his team included household names such as Geway Suja, Osward
Valerian, Sara Majaand Fabiola William. Most of them are working with the Police
force.
Commenting on Mount Kilimanjaro International Marathon, Abraham said that during
the past two years the race has been able to attract world class runners and the
competition is becoming stiffer.
"In fact, we have been attending many competitions with big names but Mount
Kilimanjaro is becoming very popular and I think the organizers should maintain
the status and uniqueness of the competition" Abraham added.
Lucian Hombo was the winner of the competition two years ago while Christopher
Isegwe won last year's .
A spokesman for Executive Solution, Agrey Marealle named the main sponsors of
Mount Kilimanjaro International Marathon as Tanzania Breweries through its
Kilimanjaro brand. Others are Multichoice, Tanga Cement, Celtel, Air Tanzania,
Shoprite and Bonite Bottlers
