Tengeru market built to celebrate 100 years of Rotary bringing dignity and hope to millions of people around the world is due to be officially opened mid-February this year.

Multi-purpose market opens in Tengeru

Over 900 women have already moved into the newly constructed Tengeru market, thanks to a project initiated by the Rotary Club of Arusha.

The new market located about 10 kilometres east of Arusha, not only offers a secure, hygienic market place for horticulture produce but also offers education, in horticulture, family spacing and HIV/AIDS care of patient at home. Education is also offered on malaria, nutrition, hygiene, water management, business management and micro finance.

So far the enclosed market with a covered area of 2,700square metres, plus 16 toilets, vegetable racks and education materials has cost some US$117,000. of this US$40,000 came from Rotary Clubs in New Zealand, US$24,000 from Rotary International, US$10,000 from the Rotary Club of Guildford District, UK and US$6,000 from Britain/Tanzania Society.

The rest was raised through company and individuals while Arusha Duluti Ltd donated three acres of land.
