Mkombozi launches major campaign to help street childrenby Staff reporter Mkombozi Centre for Street Children is this week launching a campaign to raise about Tsh.140m/= to cover costs of caring 107 kids at its residential centre in Moshi this year. The funds will help Mkombozi guarantee the children food, shelter and education while it is working on the possibility of the children’s family reunification. Mkombozi, a non governmental organization works to give street children, normally living in streets without asecure food or place to sleep, a new start in life and opportunities for their future. Kate McAlpine, Mkombozi Director urged individuals, companies and institutions to donate to the centre. A one-off donation can also be done through the centre’s website (www.mkombozi.org) "We need to provide street children with the same basic rights that my children take for granted ... to sleep at night without fear, to wake up in the morning and know that they don’t have to eat other people’s left overs from rubbish bins...", McAlpine noted in a communique made available to the Arusha Times. Mkombozi works in the Kilimanjaro region of Northern Tanzania with children living on the streets. "Using a holistic and sustainable approach, it addresses the root causes with the local community, facilitate work and education opportunities for street children and provide a safe space for 107 children at our residential centre" says the communique. . Mkombozi believes that one unprotected child is one too many and by continuing its ground breaking work, it hopes to reach many more children and increase their rights within Tanzania. It wants to see Tanzanians prioritize children and by doing so to build national development.
