The on-going political
campaigns in Arusha are all about candidates mud-slinging each
other. All the same, it seems like the opposition camp has come with
new zeal and more powerful force than ever and if the pace continues
they could very much win.
Of course there are some parties that have lost direction and as we
have been hearing, some went to the extent of picking up fights.
This I think is because instead of peddling their policies, the
party people have currently been very busy, insulting each other. |

This year the race is bound to
be tough, especially for those vying for the local Ward
representative positions. Also, insults seem to be the order of the
day during these local campaigns, just when we were hoping for a
peaceful general elections in 2005.
Actually, it the candidates whose parties that lack proper policies
who tend to breach the electoral commission regulations by lashing
out verbally at their opponents trying to discredit them. If this
trend persists, then definitely chaos will break out during the
elections. |

In Zanzibar there have been
cases of party zealots fighting or tearing off campaign posters of
candidates they don't like. This is a clear sign that things may not
exactly run smooth in this year's general elections.
Most candidates here have totally decided to breach the electoral
laws and regulations, choosing to conduct their campaigns crudely.
It is high time the National Electoral Committee steps in and
address the situation before it is too late. |
