Moshi-born, gospel singer, Faustine S. Munishi.

'Munishi claims he is anointed by God to become 'Tanzanian president!'

By Staff Writer

As political campaigns towards the forthcoming October elections are picking up speed countrywide, 'God' meanwhile, has just appeared to the Moshi born, gospel singer, Faustine S. Munishi and anointed him to be the fourth president of Tanzania.

Munishi, a song-writing genius and Gospel crooner, based in Nairobi-Kenya, used to be an Arushan resident in the early eighties then working as an artist. After he became a born-again Christian and striking it rich through synthesized gospel-pop, a genre he founded in the early eighties, the singer moved on to establish base in Nairobi.

Munishi has just returned to Arusha, where he intends to organize his own rally, through which, he plans to convey this crucial message to the local residents that 'God' has officially come through and crowned him to be the 'President of Tanzania,' therefore there should be no need for them to bother with any other election.

Munishi, apparently was also the first person to announce his interest in vying for the Tanzanian presidency, in the forthcoming October 2005 General elections. Soon after he made this statement, the singer wasn't to be heard again for a while until a few weeks ago when he published a message on one of his various Internet Website pages, calling upon all opposition parties to boycott the elections on grounds that a new constitution was needed.

Munishi's new constitution crusade went in sync with the release of his new single, 'Rushwa' which is the first musical piece to come from the crooner, since the controversial album entitled 'Mpende Adui!' (Love your enemy) released in 2000.

The title track from that album, was alleged to be attacking the ruling party, CCM, through lyrics which reportedly 'incited' people not to vote for the party and having been released during the campaign season for the previous elections, the 'hit' song caused great uproar, before and after the authorities pinned a ban tag on it.

'Rushwa' (corruption) his recent work, is yet to find its way here. Arusha is among the major markets for Pop-gospel music, a genre which Munishi founded in the Mid-eighties. Since the release of his first album in cassette format, the singer has churned out seven such efforts to date and if 'Rushwa' will spark an album, then it will be his eighth.

In between the years spent outside the recording studio, Munishi has been busy trying his hand at other skills, such as designing Web pages, something which he seems to have mastered well enough such that he now owns close to 10 internet sites. Politics oriented forums are some of his stock-in-trade material for the web pages.
