HIV/AIDS impact adversely affects school

More than 60 students of Bondeni Secondary School in the Arusha Municipality are orphans due to the deadly HIV/AIDS pandemic.
This was revealed last week by the Regional Secretary of the Muslim Council of Tanzania (BAKWATA), Sheik Ally Mzee during the school's Graduation ceremony.
Sheikh Mzee, who is also the Manager of the School said that the orphans tuition fees is being paid by relatives or foster parents. He said that this misfortune has made the school suffer a loss of Shs. 25 million from tuition fees and most studentsalso abandon their studies.
Sheikh Ally said that eight teachers have attended training on HIV/AIDS skills and now health promotion with regard to HIV/AIDS has been included in the school syllabus.
Speaking on the school's achievements, Sheikh Mzee said that the School has acquired 34 computers and computers skills are being taught from form one to six.
Earlier, the Headmaster of the School, Mr. Athuman Yunus pointed out that his school is facing a problem of facilities such as laboratory, sports field and books. He thus urged parents to fulfill their obligation of paying school fees for their children to enable the school acquire the necessary facilities and offer quality education.
