Speaking with those claiming the land, which they have paid for about eight years ago, Mr. Mbunda said that he knew that the residents, who are claiming the land, previously, were 288 but 121 of them were allocated with a total of 461 acres. Therefore, what is still owed is only 729 acres.
The District Commissioner, Mr. Lali admitted that he was aware of the prevailing land problem and he would deal with it before the 2005/2006 farming season comes. He added that the land would be allocated giving priority to widows.
Earlier, the District Executive Director pointed out that the problem which delayed the land allocation in Oljoro was the features of the area saying that most of it was unsuitable for farming. The district has now acquired better land for the allocation of the villagers.
He said everyone who has paid would be allocated with a piece of land according to the amount one paid.
