Joker, an organisation from Belgium, has enhanced its cooperation with the
Sanawari-based Professional Tour Guide School (PTGS).
The two institutions have been cooperating in an exchange programme of students.
PTGS which started in 15th September 1995 will be celebrating its 10th year in
September this year.
Speaking to The Arusha Times, the founder of the institute, Mr. Vedasto Izoba
said they have had a cultural exchange with Joker of Belgium since 1998. In the
initiative, Belgium came up with a programme named Go Minus 26 whereby students
under 26 years are facilitated to travel to ether of the two countries. A group
of 11 tourists from Belgium has had 21-day stay in Tanzania conducting classes,
cultural tourism, safaris and home stays with Tanzanian students.
Mr. Dries Mertens one of the students who had visited Tanzania in 2003 came back
in January this year with gift of six computers to the Professional Tour Guide
School.
Mr. Dries is a student in a Belgium University known as Kathohehe Hage School,
Mechelen taking an Information Management Degree. Mr. Dries has been conducting
IT classes at PTGS. An electronic library will be established soon in the
school.
PTGS started with only six students in 1995 but it is now churning out large
numbers of guides and support staff for for major tour companies.
