Tour guide school links up with Belgians

Joker, an organisation from Belgium, has enhanced its cooperation with the Sanawari-based Professional Tour Guide School (PTGS).
The two institutions have been cooperating in an exchange programme of students. PTGS which started in 15th September 1995 will be celebrating its 10th year in September this year.
Speaking to The Arusha Times, the founder of the institute, Mr. Vedasto Izoba said they have had a cultural exchange with Joker of Belgium since 1998. In the initiative, Belgium came up with a programme named Go Minus 26 whereby students under 26 years are facilitated to travel to ether of the two countries. A group of 11 tourists from Belgium has had 21-day stay in Tanzania conducting classes, cultural tourism, safaris and home stays with Tanzanian students.
Mr. Dries Mertens one of the students who had visited Tanzania in 2003 came back in January this year with gift of six computers to the Professional Tour Guide School.
Mr. Dries is a student in a Belgium University known as Kathohehe Hage School, Mechelen taking an Information Management Degree. Mr. Dries has been conducting IT classes at PTGS. An electronic library will be established soon in the school.
PTGS started with only six students in 1995 but it is now churning out large numbers of guides and support staff for for major tour companies.
