Five Babati robbers reap 30 -year jail term
Mererani duo gets five years for stealing motorbike

Five residents of Gidamara village in Babati district of Manyara have been sent
behind bars to each serve a term of 30 years, after being found guilty of armed
robbery.
The convicts are Sumari Hao aged 25, Bura Zuberi aged 26, Michael Gora (25),
Lalani Ngaa (27) and Rajabu Abdallah. They were charged with breaking into the
residential house of, Hamis Salum in the night of October 30, 2004, fully armed,
and robbing their victim of cash and other valuables amounting to Tsh. 7.5
Million.
The gang of five, according to the resident Magistrate of the Manyara Regional
Court, Huruma Shaidi, were accompanied by two other unnamed, robbery suspects
who however managed to escape, together with the firearms they were carrying.
It was the neighbors who came forth to save Salum during the robbers' attack,
which took place about one hour after midnight. The attackers however managed to
steal therein, Tsh. 7.2 million in cash and other valuable household items worth
over Tsh. 300,000.
Neighbors screams for help, brought help from nearby houses who scared the gun
totting bandits away but the other five were arrested on the spot, with
assistance form the police.
In a different case, the Manyara Regional Court magistrate, Huruma Shaidi has
sent two accused persons who appeared before the court, to serve five years in
prison each, after they were both found guilty of stealing a Honda Motorcycle
worth Tsh. 2 Million.
The motorcycle with plate numbers TZS 580, according to the Prosecutor, Raphael
Meela, was stolen in Mirerani area recently, by the two accused; Jason Mbarashi
aged 22 and Jimmy Peter, both residents of Mirerani mining area.
